Value Engineering
Value engineering most often takes place after a design has taken place, here at Birch Services Ltd. we start value enginerring right at the project conception, working with the client to define the project priorities to take forward in to the initial and detailed design phases.
Utilising our experience and knowledge of local material availability, manufacturing, fabrication and skill set, we can apply this to give the best balance of performance, quality, schedule and cost against the defined project priorities.
A qood example of this is utilising our experienced structual engineers to optimise building structures to reduce cost: In Western countries, structures are commonly constructed from stock beams as the best schedule/cost option; whereas in SE Asia, where labour costs are much lower, structual beams are commonly fabricated to order, allowing easy size optimisation and the use of tapered building columns and roof beams where the design functionality allows. During the detailed design we use a routine review process to ensure that all designs are fit for purpose, but also have not been over engineered.
We also assist clients to find, contract and monitor the manufacturing of process equipment locally or in the region. From previous projects we already have a list companies on file that we know and can recommend, or we can use our network of contacts to source. Our experienced engineers can monitor the manufacturing at the suppliers workshop on our clients behalf during the course of manufacturing and at final inspection prior to delivery.
